AUDIO: SCHOOL WILL TEACH YOU HOW TO BE AN ADULT
“The Adulting School” in Portland, Maine, teaches adults how to adult. It will teach you how to pay bills on time, interview for a job, how to cook instead of ordering takeout, how and when to get your car’s oil changed, and how to deal with relationships. The school was founded by Rachel Weinstein, a psychotherapist, and Katie Brunelle, a former public school teacher. Their website says, “You’re smart and capable – your education just didn’t provide you with all the skills you need.” The school offers in-person workshops and summits as well as webinars and blogs. Weinstein says managing money is a common source of stress for the school’s attendees, who tend to be millennials and women.
* Guess which bill they teach you to pay first? Tuition to The Adulting School.
* How to deal with relationships? Yeah, you could nail that with four or five classes.
* In-person workshops? “Hello, could you come over and demonstrate making lasagna from scratch?”
* Do they have a ball pit and coloring books? No? Not much of a school then.
* Portland, Maine? This sounds more like Portland, Oregon.
* Nothing fills me with confidence like turning over my education to a psychotherapist.
* Seriously, could they at least drop the “psycho” part?
* They want us to cook instead of ordering out takeout? Careful, the fast food industry is a big earner for us.
