76-YEAR-OLD WOMAN FINED FOR NOT SHOVELING HER WALK
A 76-year-old Boston woman was fined $200 for failing to shovel her walk. Lorraine Walsh, a lifelong South Boston resident, was one of 500 people hit with citations for failing to shovel their sidewalks over the past week. Walsh said she had no problem dealing with last Thursday’s snow storm but could only chip away half of the ice left by Sunday’s rapidly freezing slush. Because her brother John operates an insurance office out of the home, they were tagged with a $200 penalty for businesses instead of a $50 residential citation. Walsh is appealing the fine. Meanwhile, now that her story has been made public, many people are coming forward to pay her fine and help her protest.
* Great. That’s just going to motivate the police to give out more citations.
* Where’s her no-good lazy brother throughout all of this?
* An insurance salesman with an icy sidewalk. Sounds fishy.
* I understand the fine. If we don’t teach these 76-year-olds how to behave, they’ll grow up with no respect for authority.
* So who’s in charge of this program? Attila the Hun?
* It sounds like Bill Belichick isn’t the biggest hard ass in New England after all.
* The city only wants the people of Boston to comply. This is not about another revenue stream for the politicians. No, really.
* She better hope there’s not a leaf under all that snow or they’ll nail her for not raking them up too.
* We broke away from England because of crap like this. What a waste of effort that was.
