THE AMAZON MANNED-BY-ROBOTS STORE

Amazon is reportedly planning to open a robotic supermarket staffed by just three humans. The company is envisioning a two-story, automated grocery store in which a staff of robots on the floor upstairs grabs and bags items for shoppers below. The ground level would be devoted to goods that shoppers typically like to touch, like fresh fruits and vegetables, eggs, meats and cheeses, and grab-it-and-go stuff like beer and wine. The prototype is reportedly still in the early stages.
* A store manned by only three humans. Home Depot’s been doing that for years.
* The robots are all just going to take an oil break in the back of the store all at once.
* What happens when the robots get tired of doing all the crap work for the three humans?
* I’m seeing “Westworld”, only indoors, with produce.
* A staff of robots? That sounds too human.
* Do they have staff meetings and draw paychecks?
* Can a robot become employee of the month?
* Are all the robots beautiful females, like in the movies?
* It’s not as futuristic as the driverless cars, but still.
* I tell myself they still need us to shop, so we’re okay, right?
