91-YEAR-OLD MAN TO WITNESS 18TH PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURATION

A 91-year-old New Jersey man will be traveling to Washington to witness his 18th presidential inauguration in person. B. Harold Smick Jr. can still vividly remember Jan. 20, 1941 – the day he witnessed Franklin D. Roosevelt become the only U.S. president sworn in to a third term. Smick attended that inauguration when he was 15. Smick has collected everything from inaugural buttons to a piece of felt from the stage cover at FDR’s inauguration. He says he’s praying President-elect Donald Trump will bring peace, health care and jobs.
* But mostly health care.
* Given all the Democrats who are sitting this one out, he should be able to grab a seat right up front.
* Franklin D. Roosevelt’s third inauguration. That’s the one where he nudged Harry Truman and whispered, “Watch out for that 15-year-old with the glassy eyes. He doesn’t look right.”
* On behalf of the cynical Americans out there, may I offer Mr. Smick a heartfelt “Big Wup”.
* Personally, I’d rather be one of those guys who’ve seen every Super Bowl.
* Nice gig being an Inauguration nut. You only really have to do anything once every 4 years.
* It’s like the Olympic Games with politicians.
* This guy is so old he can remember when America really WAS great.
* Oh, we’re still great, but we’re not “Greatest Generation” great anymore.
* Draw an arrow on a chart indicating the quality of America from FDR to today. It ain’t pointing upwards, baby.
* PHONE TOPIC: What one event do you never miss? Parade? Grand opening?
